Inspired by his understanding that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself, it was Joseph Krug’s dream in 1843 to found a house where all Champagnes would be of the same level of distinction. That vision—captured in his dark cherry-colored notebook—was passed down throughout the generations. To this day, the House that bears his name still honors his tradition of crafting the most generous expression of Champagne every single year, regardless of annual variations in climate.
Character and individuality
At Krug, each individual plot, through its wine, is considered to be a fine musician contributing its own unique character to a Krug Champagne. The distinct melody of each wine, its level of freshness, intensity, roundness, and depth are all crucial to the creation of the whole. Paying close attention to the vineyard’s character, respecting the individuality of each plot and its wine, as well as building an extensive library of reserve wines from many different years has allowed the House to create the most complete sensorial experience a Champagne can offer in one sip.
